How each part of Modica works.
New here?
A one-minute tour of the main parts, where you can also choose what to track.
Storage
What you have at home right now, with amounts and use-by dates.
- Add food with the + button, by scanning a barcode or from a photo of a receipt.
- Open an item to change its amount, use-by date or nutrition.
- Check storage now and then to fix the amounts in one go.
Open storage
Search and type
The fastest way to find, add or log anything: type a few letters.
- Press the search button at the top, or Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac) or / on a computer.
- Type “feta 200” to put it on To Buy, “omelette” to log it, or “goals” to open Settings.
- On To Buy, Add to storage and the food log, type a name and an amount, then press Enter.

Recipes
Sorted by how close you are to cooking them, from what is in storage.
- Write a recipe, import one from a link, or ask for a suggestion from what you have.
- A recipe shows what you are missing. Add it to To Buy in one tap.
- Mark it as cooked, and its ingredients come out of storage (Undo puts them back).

Meal plan
Dishes on days, a week or a month ahead, and what to buy for them.
- Add a dish to a day and set its servings, or press Add to plan on a recipe.
- Shopping adds up every dish ahead, checks it against storage once, and puts only what’s missing on To Buy.
- Tick a dish when it’s cooked, or open it and mark it as cooked: it stops counting.

To Buy
Your shopping list, filled from recipes or by hand.
- Tick things off as you shop.
- Put everything you ticked in storage at once when you are home.
Open To Buy
Use it from your AI chat
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or another AI app to your kitchen.
- Ask “what can I cook tonight?” or “I bought 12 eggs” and it reads or updates Modica.
- It needs a Modica account, and works with your own AI subscription.

Food log
What you eat each day, with calories, macros and your daily goals.
- Type what you ate on Home, like “omelette” or “milk 250”, or tap something you had before.
- Log a recipe you cooked, something from storage, a barcode or a photo of a meal.
- The ring on Home fills as you log. Set your goals on the food log.
Open the food log
How you feel
A quick daily check-in, next to the food you logged that day.
- Check in once a day from the food log.
- After a while of logging, What we noticed shows the foods that go with feeling better or worse.
Check in
Expenses
What you spend on food and household things, and what each recipe costs.
- Scan a receipt to fill storage, tick it off To Buy and note what you spent at once.
- A long order in a shop’s app? Add each screenshot, up to six: they’re read as one receipt.
- Or add an expense by hand.
Open expenses
Put it on your home screen
Modica then opens full screen from its own icon, like an app.
- iPhone: open this page in Safari, not inside Instagram, Telegram or another app. Tap Share (on iOS 26, tap ••• first), scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Android: in Chrome, tap ⋮ and then Add to Home screen or Install app.
- On iPhone the home screen app keeps its own copy of your kitchen, apart from Safari. Sign in to bring your kitchen along.
Turned off
