Terms of use
Effective 28 October 2026
In short
Modica is a free kitchen helper. Use it lawfully, keep your sign-in safe, and treat AI answers and nutrition figures as estimates, never as medical or allergy advice.
Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Artem Dovhyi (“we”). By using Modica you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. The privacy notice explains how we handle your data.
The service
Modica helps you track what is in your kitchen, save recipes, see what you can cook and plan your shopping. It works without an account. An optional account adds syncing between devices, AI features and the Claude connector. The service is currently free.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you are under 16, or under the age of digital consent where you live if that is lower, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission, and they accept these terms for you.
- Keep access to your email and Google account secure: anyone who can sign in as you can use your kitchen.
- You can stop using Modica and delete your account at any time in Settings.
Your content
Your recipes, notes and photos stay yours. You give us permission to store, process and transmit them only as needed to run the service for you, including sending them to our AI provider when you use an AI feature. You are responsible for having the right to use what you upload.
AI features and nutrition
Recipe ideas, photo readings and nutrition figures are produced automatically and can be wrong or incomplete. They are general information, not medical, dietary or allergy advice. Always check ingredients, labels and allergens yourself, and ask a professional if you have a medical condition or a serious allergy.
AI features have daily limits per account so the service stays available to everyone. We may change the limits or the features.
Health tracking
Health tracking is optional. It shows what tended to happen on your own days, such as feeling worse on days after a certain food, and an estimate of the energy you use. These are observations from what you entered, not causes. Modica is not a medical device: it does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, and nothing in it is medical advice.
Talk to a doctor about anything that worries you, and before changing what you eat for a health reason.
Acceptable use
- Do not break the law, infringe others’ rights or upload harmful content.
- Do not try to get around limits or security, access other people’s data, or disrupt the service.
- Do not use automated means to overload the service or resell access to it.
Copyright complaints
Your recipes, notes and photos are private to your account: Modica does not publish them. The shared nutrition index shows only numbers under general food names. If you believe something in Modica infringes your copyright, contact us with the work, where it appears, your contact details and a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised. We will remove infringing material promptly.
Third-party services
Some features rely on others, such as Open Food Facts for barcodes, Google for sign-in, and Claude for the connector. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for their content or availability.
Product details found by barcode come from the Open Food Facts database, available under the Open Database License, and its product photos under Creative Commons BY-SA. Both are © Open Food Facts contributors.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Modica running, but it is provided as it is, without guarantees that it will always be available or error-free. Keep backups of anything important (Settings → Download backup). We may change, suspend or end features; if we end the service, we will give reasonable notice so you can download your data.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
Ending these terms
You can stop at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We change the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app first. If you keep using Modica after a change takes effect, the new terms apply.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the country where the operator is established. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and can bring claims in its courts.
