Use Modica in your AI chat

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and others to your kitchen.

How it works

Modica has an MCP server, the standard way AI apps use other apps. Add it once to your AI app, then ask in plain words: it reads and updates your storage, recipes, To Buy and food log, with your own AI subscription.

You need a Modica account: the AI app signs in with it to reach your kitchen.

Connect your AI app

Claude

claude.ai, the desktop app and the mobile app
  • On claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app, open Customize → Connectors (Settings → Connectors in older versions).
  • Choose + Add, then Add custom connector.
  • Name it “Modica”, paste the address above and choose Continue, then Add.
  • Choose Connect, sign in to Modica and press Allow.
  • In a chat, turn Modica on from the + menu → Connectors. It works in the mobile app too once it's added.
Every plan can add it; the free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors first. If signing in fails, edit the connector and set OAuth client to Register automatically.

Using something else? Look for “custom connector”, “remote MCP server” or “MCP URL” in its settings, and paste the address. Apps that only run MCP servers on your own computer can’t connect to Modica yet.

What you can ask

Modica gives your AI app 9 tools. You don’t pick them: ask in your own words and it uses the right ones.
  • Get kitchen
    Only reads
Sees what you have at home, your shopping list, your diet and today’s food log.
“What could I cook tonight with what’s in my fridge?”
  • List recipes
    Only reads
Lists your recipes, the ones you can cook right now first.
“Which of my recipes can I make without going shopping?”
  • Get recipe
    Only reads
Opens one recipe, with its steps and anything you’re missing.
“Walk me through my shakshuka recipe step by step.”
  • Update storage
    Changes your kitchen
Changes amounts in storage after shopping or cooking, and sets use-by dates.
“I just bought 12 eggs and 1 kg of rice. The milk is good until Friday.”
  • Add to shopping list
    Changes your kitchen
Puts things on To Buy, or everything a recipe or your meal plan is missing.
“Add whatever I’m missing for lasagne to my shopping list.”
  • Save recipe
    Changes your kitchen
Saves a recipe you worked out together to your recipes.
“Save that curry as a recipe for 4 servings.”
  • Cook recipe
    Changes your kitchen
Marks a recipe as cooked and takes its ingredients out of storage. It asks you first.
“I made the pancakes. Take the ingredients out of storage.”
  • Log food
    Changes your kitchen
Adds what you ate to your food log, with calories and macros.
“Log 2 servings of my overnight oats for breakfast.”
  • Plan meals
    Changes your kitchen
Plans your week: puts recipes on days, and can then shop for the whole plan.
“Plan dinners for next week from my recipes, then add what I’m missing to To Buy.”

Good to know

  • Changes show up in Modica the next time it syncs, usually within seconds.
  • It respects your diet and the ingredients you avoid, and asks before cooking a recipe, since that takes food out of storage.
  • Modica only sees what the AI app asks of it, never the rest of your chat.
  • Disconnect an app any time in Settings → Use with AI apps.
